News

Welcome to the Ripchord Official Website. Ripchord are currently recording a new full length album and below you can see how this is going, as well as live dates.

Thurs 16th September

After Ripchords performance at The Varsity, Wolverhampton was so classic, Ripchord were asked to return there and will be doing so tonight. They will be onstage at around 9.30pm so come down. Tickets are £2.

Also, tomorrow Ripchord will be playing a charity gig with their pals Lady Fortune, Melodian Manic and The Killer Replay at The Whitehouse Hotel, Telford. Its for charity you know.

Weds 18th August

Ripchord played a great gig at the Lightbar on Friday which consisted of ten classic songs, both old and new. They were joined by their new permanent bassist 'Tommy Beal' and were also most privilaged to have The Fight's Scott Milner on drums.

Ripchord also busked in Shrewsbury with members of Lady Fortune and Melodian Manic on Monday and the people of Shrewsbury were most pleasured. They also played a secret gig at Albrighton's The Harp on the same night.

Don't forget that Ripchord will be playing The Varsity tomorrow (Thursday 19th), supporting Liquid Sky.

Monday 9th August

Ripchord's gig at Brady's at the end of July went well, although they did think very much of the pub due to its staff persisting in smashing glasses and throwing cigarettes at people, prompting Chris to tell the audience onstage that it was the '****est pub' he had ever been to, much to the anoyance of the owner. Ripchord's gig which occurred two days ago with Art Brut and The Ludes was therefore cancelled and instead Ripchord played the same night supporting both The Unstrung and The Paddingtons with their chums Lady Fortune. Also this week, there is a large feature in the NME on what they refer to as the 'London DIY scene', which features The Unstrung, The Paddingtons and The Others, all of whom Ripchord have recently played with (as well as Art Brut, who they were going to play with on Friday but this gig has now been postponed till later in the year).

Ripchord are also pleased to announce three more gigs in the near future. The first is tomorrow in which they will be busking in Shrewsbury with other members of Lady Fortune and Melodian Manic. This will be occurring at 2pm in Shrewsbury High Street.

The second is this Friday (13th August) in which they will be playing at the local indie club of Wolverhampton which is called 'Xtra' and takes place every Friday at the LightBar which is right next to the train station. They will be onstage at around 11.30 - midnight and they will be preceded and followed by the usual clubnight music which is played there (which is proper indie with no shit music as played in local supposedly 'indie' clubs such as Blast Off and Snobs).

For third gig, Ripchord make a welcome return to The Varsity, Wolverhampton on Thursday 20th August. They will be supporting local band Liquid Sky and will be onstage around 8.30pm.

As some people may know a Ripchord cd has also been passed on to Pete Doherty of Libertines fame and talk of supporting him may well be on the cards.

Mon 26th July

Ripchord will be playing a secret gig this Wednesday at Brady's Bar in Shrewsbury. It may be an acoustic gig or it may be electric, who knows?! As well as Ripchord, six other top bands will be playing including 'Survival Of The Fittest', 'Landslide' and Ripchord's old pals 'Lady Fortune'. Don't forget that the following Friday they are returning to Shrewsbury to support The Ludes and Art Brut at the Ministry.

Sat 10th July

Ripchord will be playing the Telford Unicorn in Ketley tonight with Lady Fortune so come down. Ripchord would also like to announce that they will be supporting 'Art Brut' and 'The Ludes' on 6th August at the Ministry in Shrewsbury.

The photo shoot with Stuart Elcocks also occurred this week and the photos are gradually being added to the site.

Sat 3rd July

Ripchord would like to announce that they will be playing with Lady Fortune, who supported them at the Little Civic on the second date of their '2 tour' recently. The gig will take place on Saturday June 10th in Telford. More details to come soon.

Ripchord would also like to thank all those who have been using the forum which has recently been added to the site and due to demand are pleased to reveal that a new 'Downloads' page has been added today where two Ripchord demos can be downloaded. As they should be recording some new songs in the next couple of weeks, these songs will be added soon.

Some new Ripchord photos have also been added to the site and Ripchord are doing a photo shoot with local photographer Stuart Elcocks, whose work can be seen at www.sedigitalphotography.co.uk. These photos will appear on the website as soon as possible.

Sun 20th June

Ripchord would like to thank all those who attended the Little Civic gigs of the Ripchord '2 Tour' on the last two consecutive Fridays. Both gigs had great audience participation and interest in the band continues.

Ripchord would also like to announce that the festivals that they will play this year will include Astonbury, which is taking place on Sunday 27th June. However, due to certain circumstances' Chris will not be singing at this gig which will make this the first Ripchord gig in which no member from the original Ripchord lineup has played. However, Chris will be back with Ripchord when they play an acoustic show at The Halfway House in Tettenhall, Wolverhampton on Wednesday 7th July. The gig is free and should begin at around 8.30pm.

Mon 17th May

Ripchord played another well recieved gig last Wednesday in Shrewsbury and both The Others and The Paddingtons showed an interest in getting The 'Chord to support them at future gigs. The Other's single 'This Is For The Poor' (which is this weeks NME's single of the week) is released today.

Ripchord will be playing at the Little Civic in Wolverhampton on Friday 4th June and the price of tickets is only £2 on the door. They hope to play a large amount of new material at this gig.

Ripchord are also supporting The Paddingtons (who have previously supported The Others and The Libertines) again at the Little Civic in Wolverhampton on Friday 11th June.

Tues 11th May

Just a reminder that Ripchord are playing in Shrewsbury tomorrow and that the venue has been changed from the Ministry to Brady's (which is apparently just by the train station).

Thurs 29th April

After going in the Libertines tour bus, we are happy to announce that Ripchord will play at school tomorrow of all days at about 8 o clock. Hurrah! Then they will also play the Little Civic on the 4th June. And they will support RAZORLIGHT as well as THE OTHERS, two very famous bands at the Shrewsbury Ministry on 12 th May. Nice one

Tues March 2nd

Ripchord would like to thank all those who attended their perfomance in charity busking week at Adams Grammar School. They played a 40 minute set, in which time over £130 was collected. Thanks to all those who contributed.

Ripchord are to to play at the Varsity, Wolverhampton this Thurday (4th March). They will be playing a 45 minute set which is set to include some new material, featuring the live debut of the much hyped 'Living Daylights'. Tickets for the gig are a mere two pounds and can be bought on the door.

As you can see, new photos have been added to the 'Ripchord Piccies' page.

Sun 11th January

Ripchord are to support Peter from Fame Academy on Friday 23rd January at Shrewsbury Music Hall. Other bands appearing include Easyworld and Telex. Tickets for the gig cost 8 english pounds and can be purchased from the venue. This will be a big gig so please come and lend your support.

Weds 29th October

Ripchord make a welcome return to the acoustic 'LLeven night', playing a blistering set of covers and originals at the Halfway House. With a large amount of crowd support and superb renditions of old classics such as Mind Stealers mixed with new dazzlers such as Terrible Thing, this really was a classic Ripchord gig.

Sat 11th October

Ripchord successfully get through round one of the Battle Of The Bands competition. Details of round two will come soon

Saturday 30th August

Ripchord recruit Dave Copson, previously of the locally infamous Driving South, to be their new bassist after the departure of Barney Ball.
